Rick Axelson is the Foundation’s director of analytics where he leads Carnegie’s efforts to provide measures and analyses that inform improvement activities. Rick comes to Carnegie from the University of Iowa (UI), where he was a faculty member in the Carver College of Medicine. At UI, he and his colleagues in the Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education aided the design, implementation, and evaluation of improvement efforts in medical education programs and curricula. Previous to Iowa, Rick had developed and directed institutional research, assessment, and/or planning operations for the Riverside Community College District, the University of South Alabama, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has a PhD in sociology and an MS in statistics, both from the University of Arizona.
