Richard Rhodes is the president/CEO of the Austin Community College District. Previously, he was president of El Paso Community College, where he led EPCC to be the fastest growing community college in Texas and the largest grantor of associate degrees to Hispanic students in the nation. Prior to that, Rhodes served as the vice president of business services at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City. He also served with El Paso Community College from 1983 -1994 in the role of vice president of financial and administrative services and interim president. From 1975-1983 he was comptroller and accountant at New Mexico State University.
A native of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Rhodes received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Arts in Educational Management and Development (Higher Education) from New Mexico State University. He earned his Ph.D. in the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas at Austin.
In addition to many local commitments, Rhodes serves as the chair of the Texas Association of Community Colleges and past-chair of the Texas Association of Community College Trustees and Administrators. He also serves on the Formula Funding Advisory Committee for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and on the Governor’s Commission for a College Ready Texas.
