Carnegie Foundation launches effort to modernize U.S. high schools

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has announced the launch of the Future of High School Network (FHS Network), an initiative designed to catalyze learning, knowledge, and impact in American high schools.

Supported by several national institutions—including the XQ InstituteWilliam and Flora Hewlett FoundationWalton Family FoundationYouth Thriving Through Learning Fund, and Carnegie Corporation of New York as well as partners at the Educational Testing Service—the FHS Network will bring together 24 school systems educating approximately 90,000 students to modernize current practices and scale competency-based high school models that accelerate student engagement. Results from the initiative will inform the Carnegie Foundation’s forthcoming National Research and Development Agenda—a comprehensive effort to define the research and development priorities needed to advance effective high school transformation across the country.
