This activity provides an introduction to the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle, allowing groups to practice engaging in disciplined inquiry and iterative testing cycles. The resources for an instructor include handouts and guidance for facilitating the activity.

This hands-on activity is designed to introduce rapid cycle Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) testing. It can be extended to demonstrate how a theory of improvement can guide testing.

This set of resources includes the following materials:

  • Mr. Potato Head PDSA Game: Facilitator’s Guide – Outlines the activity objectives and structure, and includes prompts for introducing and leading the activity
  • Mr. Potato Head PDSA Game: Slides – Introduces the activity, purpose and structure, including discussion prompts
  • Participant Handouts – Includes all necessary participant handouts

During the activity, groups will test methods for building a Mr. Potato Head doll that matches the model provided quickly and correctly. This activity emphasizes the importance of prediction and measurement for learning through disciplined inquiry.
