Planning What and How We Will Learn (PDSA Video Series #3)

This video delves into the Plan and Do steps of the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle, focusing on the role of learning questions, predictions and data to support learning while testing a change idea.

This is the third video in a five-part series focused on deepening improvers’ knowledge of and skills in conducting PDSA cycles to test and refine change ideas designed to improve specific outcomes.

During this video, the presenter discusses how to thoughtfully prepare for conducting a PDSA cycle by considering key logistics as well as learning goals for the test. The video unpacks three important elements of the Plan step – learning questions, predictions, and preparing for data collection. These elements support learning about the effectiveness and implementation of the change idea, which can guide refinements to the change idea and subsequent testing cycles. The video also discusses the importance of documentation when testing a change idea and emphasizes collecting data and recording objective observations during the Do step of the cycle.
