Measurement System Example

In this video the presenter describes the system of measures that the Building Teacher Effectiveness Network (BTEN) used to learn about their theory of improvement for building new teacher efficacy and retention.

A system of measures supports learning about a theory of improvement, and allows improvers to collect data to understand how different elements of their system are performing, where elements of the theory are connected, and where the theory might need revision.

In this video, the presenter walks through the BTEN team’s theory of improvement and the measures that they used to generate data to understand if the  changes they were making were helping them move towards their aim to improve new teacher retention.

The video also includes reflections from two members of the Austin Independent School District team about how they were using data from the system of measures to learn and inform their improvement work and examples of the data they examined on a regular basis.
