Movement for the Movement

This workshop is based on engaging the cultural technologies of our ancestors – joy and resilience building tools of movement and art making: Salsa, hip hop, line dancing, partner dancing and processions to name a few. For generations, social dance practices have rooted our families and communities in boldly taking up space, building coalition, practicing joy and engaging movement as a lifeline inside of struggle. CONTRA-TIEMPO has been building this work over the years with community partners in Los Angeles such as Community Coalition and Community Power Collective, embedding movement and joy building practice into our daily organizational practice as a viable resource to meet needs, agitate and advocate.
