Bio

Rob Reich is an associate professor of political science and ethics in society at Stanford University and courtesy professor in the School of Education. He has served on editorial or review boards for the Journal of Philosophy of Education, Educational Theory and Learning for Democracy. He is the director of Stanford's Program in Ethics in Society and a co-director at the Center for the Study of Philanthropy and Civil Society. With a focus on contemporary political theory, Reich has worked on projects emphasizing ethics, public policy and philanthropy, as well as equality and adequacy as they relate to education policy and reform. Author of Bridging Liberalism and Multiculturalism in American Education (University of Chicago Press, 2002) and co-author of Democracy at Risk: How Political Choices Undermine Citizen Participation and What We Can Do About It (Brookings Institution Press, 2005), Reich has received fellowships from the Center for Human Values at Princeton University, the Spencer Foundation, and the Stanford Humanities Center, and is the recipient of several teaching awards, including Stanford’s highest award for teaching, the Walter J. Gores Prize. He is the co-founder of Stanford University Hope House Scholars Program, a liberal arts course taught by Stanford faculty at a residential substance abuse facility for women in Redwood City, CA. Prior to attending graduate school, Rob taught sixth grade at Rusk Elementary School in Houston, TX.
