Fostering a Shared Identify through the Power of Narrative (Summit 2020)

This session, presented at the 2020 Summit on Improvement in Education, shares how narratives can be used to foster improvement culture and shared identity among networked improvement communities and teams.

A dynamic and unified narrative fosters an improvement community’s vital norms and identity. Drawing on the experiences of the National Writing Project, this session shares an interactive process for drafting an individual’s personal narrative (of “self”) in the context of their improvement effort. The session also includes strategies and routines for leading improvement teams in crafting a collective narrative (of “us”).
