This worksheet guides individuals to reflect on what they have learned to-date from tests of a particular change, and where they might be ready to focus next in their learning. It includes key questions to consider as a tester prepares to spread and scale a change idea using a PDSA ramp on the path to implementing that change in a system.
PDSA cycles often begin as small-scale tests of a specific change idea. As that change idea is refined and improvers begin to build evidence of its effectiveness, they may consider bringing it to new contexts. This process of gradually introducing a change in new, increasingly diverse contexts is known as a PDSA ramp. While moving up this ramp toward systemwide implementation of the change, subsequent PDSAs can help improvers learn about the conditions and supports that are needed to ensure the change idea produces consistent, reliable results across different users and settings.
This guide is intended to help improvers reflect on learnings from previous PDSA cycles in order to determine how and where they might learn next when bringing the change to new contexts. The prompts guide improvers to consider the phases of a PDSA testing and scaling plan (PDSA ramp), highlighting learning goals for each phase.
