College: The Undergraduate Experience in America
A policy report based on extensive surveys of students and faculty members, thousands of hours of interviews and observations on representative campuses, and a review of important major evaluations of colleges by education authorities. This frequently cited study examines the undergraduate experience in classrooms, in student centers, on sports fields, and in dormitories. The undergraduate curriculum, the quality of teaching, and the adequacy of libraries and other learning resources are extensively examined. The epilogue is presented as “A Guide to a Good College.” February 1987. A policy study. College: The Undergraduate Experience in America was also released as a video in 1987. Recorded at the Harvard University/Carnegie Foundation colloquium on undergraduate education, this video highlights issues and speakers of the conference, as well as questions and comments from audience participants. The video, which can be viewed in its entirety or in six separate sections, is designed for use by administrators, faculty, students, policy committees, trustees, and others seeking ways to focus discussion on undergraduate reform and to share information and ideas.
