Carnegie Foundation Statement on AAPI Hate
The Carnegie Foundation condemns all forms of violence, discrimination, racism, harassment, and xenophobia. According to the March 2021 Stop AAPI Hate National Report, hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States has increased during the pandemic.
The growing aggression over the past few years directed to our nation’s communities of color represents the greatest moral challenge of our time. Let us be clear for what we stand: Evidence over ignorance, empathy over anger, open-mindedness over intractability, truth over manipulation, justice over injustice.
In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Hate and violence directed to the AAPI community is a threat to all of us. At the Foundation, we rededicate our work to creating a more equitable education system as part of a more just society.
