Norma Ming

Norma Ming serves as managing director of the Evidence and Improvement Lab where she leads the work of building evidence to guide the development and use of new educational models. She brings over 25 years of cross-sectoral experience in PK-16+ education research and practice. Most recently, Norma worked at San Francisco Unified School District as manager of research and evaluation, overseeing the district’s portfolio of external research partnerships and internal evaluations to advance continuous improvement. She was a co-principal investigator on an institutional challenge grant awarded by the W. T. Grant Foundation to address inequities in school attendance and engagement through youth-led inquiry.

As a former K-12 and university educator, with a bachelor’s in chemistry from Harvard and a doctorate (Ph.D.) in cognitive psychology from Carnegie Mellon University, Norma is committed to building sustainable systems for integrating multiple streams of evidence to improve education. Her work has been presented in various professional conferences and published in a variety of academic and practitioner venues. She serves on the board of directors for the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness and has reviewed grant proposals for the Institute of Education Sciences, National Science Foundation, and W. T. Grant Foundation. She is also a co-founder and board member of Socos Labs, which applies artificial intelligence to education and human development.
