There are some initiatives of the Foundation that fall into the category of “in service to others.” Those “others” may be organizations, the education field in general, or the federal government. This is work where we might serve as an integrative force, a synthesizer of information or data, or as an honest broker of ideas to better inform deliberations on a given issue. In some cases, we might be asked to frame a research and development agenda that might advance further improvements.

The Advancing Teaching-Improving Learning (ATIL) program seeks to enhance the capacity of those working in the field of teacher assessment and evaluation by helping them to learn from emerging practices to build more effective information systems to advance teacher quality.
