Education Week: Carnegie Summit Illustrates Path Toward Equity

April 13, 2017

In Education Week, Charles Taylor Kerchner describes Carnegie’s approach to school improvement, doing improvement science in networked improvement communities, as a golden opportunity for the field to get better at getting better. Kerchner asks, what if achievement gaps are built into the education system? He answers by noting that if the problem is not in the adopted program but in the system surrounding it, then the search for a proven-practice solution will always lead to disappointment. As he says, you can’t move toward equity until you understand the system that caused it.
