A 2019 Spotlight Honoree will briefly describe its Improvement Network journey in 100+ high-need LAUSD and NYC schools that included weekly PDSA cycles with teacher users and literacy coaches, the study of variation (and occasional outright failure) that pivoted the organization from PD-only to its current comprehensive instructional subsystems approach (Curric/Assessment/PD). Remarkable 0.37 effects’ sizes resulted in the 2022 award of another highly competitive USDOE Mid-Phase EIR grant in 70 LAUSD and 70 low-SES rural schools to systematize bimonthly Instructional Leadership Team in PDSA progress-monitoring cycles and culturally responsive performance task design, instruction, rubric data calibration, and ILT iteration.
